30 Ways to Reset this September

Let’s all take a collective breath this month as we focus on a fresh start for fall. Fall has ALWAYS been my favorite time of year! Back to school! Seasonal harvests! Cooler (but not too cool) days! Take some time for yourself and steal our strategies for self-care to have your best September ever.

Join us for 30 days of healthy habits to find your breath in the present moment. You can follow the calendar we've created for you or mix and match as you choose.

Week 1: September 1 - 7

This week we focus on setting the tone for the rest of the month, with an intention and new goals.

Theme: Set Intentions

Affirmation: I reassess my daily routines and habits to better cultivate long-lasting health and happiness.

"To breathe properly is to live properly."

~Robin Sharma

  1. Sunday: Set an intention for the month. Take a step back today and assess how the past month went for you. Ask yourself: How do I want this fall to go? How do I want to feel? What do I want to accomplish?
  2. Monday: Do something different. Take advantage of the extra space you have this Labor Day to challenge yourself to make a change you’ve been considering. Did you know that the first days of the week and/or month are when our motivation is highest? Take advantage of this fact and start your month off with a win! Looking to change your drinking? 3. Tuesday: Make your bed. Starting the day with a task completed helps you feel accomplished and more focused for the rest of the day.
  4. Wednesday: Take a breathwork class online or in person. Do some research and see what’s offered in your town. Learning how to use your breath is great for your nervous system - it helps in reducing anxiety and in improving focus.
  5. Thursday: Swap in a healthier beverage. Grab some healthy beverage swaps at the grocery store or order some online to have on hand when you are feeling like a refreshment. Write a reminder on your fridge or bar to remember to grab the healthier option first this week. You could try sparkling water, kombucha, fruit juices, or a canned alcohol-free option. There are so many choices these days! I’ve been making a sleepy girl mocktail with tart cherry juice and magnesium
  6. Friday: Read a physical book. Stop by your local library, bookstore, or a neighborhood little library to find a new book. Take yourself on a date with your new book for national read a book day.
  7. Saturday: Go for a bike ride. Let your thoughts wander as you feel the wind in your hair and follow the open road or trail. Look for signs that fall is approaching.

Week 2: September 8 - 14

This week, we get focused on the habits that support our wellness.

Mood: Remember to Breathe

Affirmation: I stay true to myself. I enthusiastically protect my light.

"Fear is excitement without the breath."

~Fritz Perls

  1. Sunday: Meet with an elder or mentor in your life. Today is Grandparents’ Day - set a date with your grandparents or any other important mentor or elder and share your appreciation for them.
  2. Monday: Track your time. Do a time audit this week, by keeping track of all activities and how long each one takes. This can include how much time you spent working, socializing, eating, drinking, exercising, online, on social media, watching tv or YouTube, and sleeping, as well as anything else that comes up for you. Where do you notice that you get stuck? Where do you want to be spending your time? Is it accurately reflected in your data?
  3. Tuesday: Focus on your mental health. Today is World Suicide Prevention Day and what better day to do something good for your mental health? Schedule that therapy, move your body, get outside, take your medication or supplements, or use affirmations to find some benefits today and every day.
  4. Wednesday: Go for a walk after dinner. Leave your phone and that second cocktail at home. Walking after dinner is good for more than just your digestion!
  5. Thursday: Relive your vacation. Keep the memories alive by remaking a favorite meal, revisiting your favorite photos (maybe even get one printed?), or telling some stories. One of the benefits of summer vacations is that they continue to infuse your life with meaning, memories, and joy.
  6. Friday: Friday: Make an active date with a friend. Schedule some time for a walk or workout and celebrate one another’s wins.
  7. Saturday: Create a Dahlia Bouquet. Stop by the farmer’s market or look for a local u-pick to enjoy these beautiful seasonal flowers. Bonus: they last longer than most cut flowers and will brighten your space for the coming week.

Week 3:  September 15 - 21

At the mid-way point of the month, we let go of the things that are holding us back.

Theme: Release

Affirmation: I release any doubts or fears that hold me back from pursuing my dreams.

"Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go."

~Hermann Hesse

  1. Sunday: Pick an affirmation for the week. Say something to yourself that reminds of what truly matters. Check out our Affirmation Journal for our favorite affirmations!
  2. Monday: Make a meal that pairs with homemade guacamole! It’s national Guacamole Day and today’s your day to center a meal around this tasty and healthy menu item!
  3. Tuesday: Watch the moonrise. Pause this evening to watch the sun set, the full moon rise, and you might catch a tiny glimpse of the partial eclipse as well.
  4. Wednesday: Say no when you mean no. Reflect on the past few weeks and ask yourself if there’s anything you wish you had said “no” to. Look at your calendar and see if there’s anything you agreed to that just doesn’t work for you. Give plenty of warning if you need to cancel any social engagements.
  5. Thursday: Do a social media detox - take the day (or the week!) off of social media. Pay attention to when you instinctively go to distract yourself and notice what feels better.
  6. Friday: Have an art night. Pull out your favorite art supplies - paint, markers, collage materials, etc. Invite some friends, put on your Spotify playlist, and make a night of it!
  7. Saturday: Plant fall bulbs. Give your future self a gift. Plant some daffodils, tulips, or crocuses now to enjoy beautiful blooms in early spring.

Week 4: September 22 - 28

It’s officially fall! Follow nature’s lead and take some time for yourself.

 Theme: Rest

Affirmation: I find a quiet place to rest and hear my own intuition.

"Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take

between two deep breaths."

~Etty Hillesum

  1. Sunday: Start brunch off with a Fall Sunrise Mocktail. Celebrate the first day of fall as you make your own brunch this morning. Go for a mocktail with my favorite - the Fall Sunrise. Check out Instagram for my recipe and be sure to find or make yourself fresh squeezed orange juice - it makes all the difference!
  2. Monday: Decorate your space for fall. Pick up some pumpkins, gather some leaves, and light a beeswax candle or two.
  3. Tuesday: Go to bed early. Take advantage of the darker evenings to turn in early tonight. Your body will thank you for the extra sleep.
  4. Wednesday: Take an everything shower. Schedule some time this evening to do ALL the self-care: try a hair or face mask, do some gua sha or dry brushing, and be sure you use your favorite lotions and potions!
  5. Thursday: Enjoy fig flavors. It’s fig season in California! Find some fresh figs at your farmers market or local grocery store! Make a fig tart or broil and serve with vanilla ice cream!
  6. Friday: Stay in! Practice the Joy of Missing Out (JOMO) with a cozy night at home. Revisit a favorite movie or your favorite season of Gilmore Girls.
  7. Saturday: Make a day of apple picking. Visit your local apple orchard or cider mill and enjoy!

Week 5: September 29 - 30

Focus on what goals you want to set for fall / the final quarter of the year.

Theme: Focus

Affirmation: I radiate the truth of who I am. I let go of perfectionism.

"Breathe in deeply to bring your mind home to your body."

~Thích Nhất Hạnh

  1. Sunday: Celebrate national coffee day. Play barista at home or meet some friends on this day that celebrates everyone's favorite beverage.
  2.  Monday: Take yourself out on a solo date. Pull out your journal and reflect on how this month has gone. What’s next for you?
